Happy 4th and a Big Fire

I’ve been waiting for Kathy to link up to her monthly scavenger hunt but she has not added her usual list.

Happy 4th of July to all.

Before the fire.

Our section of the Rockies caught fire yesterday in Alpine, Utah about 2:30 PM from a back hoe.  By 3:30 it looked like this from Lehi. I am about 20 miles from the fire.

Thirty minutes later it looked like this:

In less than an hour it had burned to the top of the ridge.

This mountain peak is close to 9,000 feet.  If it goes into American Fork Canyon which has been evacuated, the largest peak there is about 11,500 feet.

So far there is zero containment of the fire and this morning the air smells like burning wood of all those pine trees, quaking aspens and other trees in our high majestic mountains. Part of Alpine has been evacuated to the tune of 80 families and they are sleeping in one of the high schools. We are all waiting to see which way the fire will go when the wind kicks up today.

How awful for the people in your area to have to see your beautiful mountains engulfed in flames. Prayers and good wishes go out to the families whose homes were effected by the fire. Happyn4th of July.

There is nothing worse than fire or water – both can destroy so much in such a little period of time. Lets hope that all will be under control very soon.June
