Our section of the Rockies caught fire yesterday in Alpine, Utah about 2:30 PM from a back hoe. By 3:30 it looked like this from Lehi. I am about 20 miles from the fire.
Thirty minutes later it looked like this:
In less than an hour it had burned to the top of the ridge.
This mountain peak is close to 9,000 feet. If it goes into American Fork Canyon which has been evacuated, the largest peak there is about 11,500 feet.
So far there is zero containment of the fire and this morning the air smells like burning wood of all those pine trees, quaking aspens and other trees in our high majestic mountains. Part of Alpine has been evacuated to the tune of 80 families and they are sleeping in one of the high schools. We are all waiting to see which way the fire will go when the wind kicks up today.
